ACMA blocks more illegal gambling sites
The Australian regulator says it has requested blocks against five unlicensed sites.
Australia.- The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) has requested that Australian online service providers (ISPs) block five more unlicensed online gambling sites for violating the Interactive Gambling Act 2001. The sites are Best Aussie Pokies, winspirit.online, win-spirit.online, winspirit.team, winspirit1.com.
The ACMA reported that since it made its first blocking request in November 2019, 1,279 illegal gambling and affiliate websites have been blocked. Around 220 illegal services have pulled out of the Australian market since the ACMA started enforcing new illegal online gambling rules in 2017.
The Australian regulator reminded consumers that even if a service looks legitimate, it’s unlikely to have important customer protections. Customers can check if a wagering service is licensed to operate in Australia on its register.
ACMA recently issued a request to block seven gambling websites for violations of the Interactive Gambling Act 2001. It also warned four licensed betting operators, Buddybet, Ultrabet, VicBet, and Topbet, for breaching rules by sending marketing material to people who registered with BetStop, the National Self-Exclusion Register (NSER).
