Arizona prepares sports betting launch for September
The state will allow sports betting just in time for the NFL season, which starts on September 9.
US.-The legal framework for sports betting in Arizona is ready and the state is opening the licence application process for operators.
The final rules for sports betting in Arizona are now available on the state Gaming Department’s website.
Spokesman Max Hartgraves said fantasy sports will be rolled out first, with bettors able to start participating on August 28. However, the main intention is to have licences ready before the NFL’s regular season.
Hartgraves said: “That is our planned go-live dates for fantasy sports. And then on Sept. 9, that is our planned go-live date for event wagering. So Arizonans should be able to wager on those two types of games fairly soon“.
The 10-day application process opened July 26. An additional five-day examination period has been added to determine which applicants qualify for licensing.
Online sports betting operators that are awarded a licence will be allowed to start marketing their product within the state by August 30.
According to authorities, the live launch will take place on September 8, the day before the NFL season’s opening.
Professional sports teams and tribal casinos will be required to pay a $750,000 application fee to acquire a state sportsbook licence, and $150,000 annually to maintain its validity.
