Putting data behind the sweepstakes debate

Sweepstakes was one of the topics drawing attention in Lisbon and has become an increasingly important part of Alea’s business.

In his keynote, “Beyond the Hype: What the Data Really Says About Sweepstakes,” founder Alexandre Tomic presented findings from 28 months of activity across Alea’s systems, covering 2 million players, 56.6 million sessions, 3 billion bets, and €3.8bn in bet volume.

Later that day, Tomic was joined by Anna Ghazaryan, business director at Alea, for “The Sweepstakes Phenomenon: The Data Reshaping Online Casino,” continuing the discussion around the findings.

Alexandre Tomic, founder of Alea, said: “Sweepstakes has generated a huge amount of discussion, but discussion is much more useful when there is evidence behind it. Having 28 months of data gives us a chance to look beyond assumptions and understand how players are actually behaving and how the vertical is evolving. Lisbon was an opportunity to put those findings on the table and have a more informed conversation around them.”

Alea’s stage programme also included Tomic joining “Copycat Culture: Branding Beyond Visual Identity,” while CEO Jordi Sendra took part in “Brazil Unfiltered: What Leaders Actually Think.”

The summit ended with the company being named Employer of the Year (Supplier) at the SBC Awards, after also being shortlisted for Aggregator of the Year. The recognition follows Alexandre Tomic’s Leader of the Year win at the SBC Awards in Malta earlier this year.

Alea is now preparing for SiGMA Rome in November, where members of the team will return to the stage for further speaking sessions.
