Alberta to launch regulated igaming market on July 13

The market’s opening date has been confirmed in a letter from Minister of Service Alberta and Red Tape Reduction Dale Nally.

Canada.- Alberta will see the launch of regulated online sports betting and igaming on July 13. It will be the second in Canada to have a commercial online gambling market after Ontario, which launched igaming four years ago in April 2022.

The opening date was confirmed in a letter from the Minister of Service Alberta and Red Tape Reduction Dale Nally to industry stakeholders. Nally wrote: “The launch of a regulated igaming market is an exciting chapter for our province, and I am confident that we can work together to build a market that is both competitive and socially responsible. Alberta’s future in igaming is bright, and, with your partnership, we will ensure it is a success for everyone.”

Alberta opened igaming registrations for operators and service providers in January following the approval of amendments to the Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis Regulation. Applicants must register with the AGLC for regulatory oversight before engaging with the Alberta iGaming Corporation (AiGC) to finalise commercial contracts. The process also requires integration with the AGLC’s centralised self-exclusion programme. The registration deadline is also July 13.

In a LinkedIn post, the Canadian Gaming Association (CGA) stated: “On behalf of the board of directors and members, the Canadian Gaming Association (CGA) extends congratulations to the Government of Alberta, AGLC, AiGC, and the Honourable Dale Nally on announcing the launch date for Alberta’s igaming market, scheduled for July 13, 2026. We commend your commitment to prioritising player protection and implementing robust regulatory standards to ensure a safe market environment.”

In Ontario’s first year of regulated igaming, the market generated CAD$35.6bn ($26.5bn) in wagers and $1.4bn in gaming revenue. In February 2026, wagers in the province totalled CA$8.73bn, up 23 per cent year-over-year. Non-adjusted gross gaming revenue (NAGGR) was CA$342.4m.
