AGCO updates responsible gambling training standards for gaming and lottery

The regulator no longer requires registrar approval for training programmes.

Canada.- The Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) has updated its Responsible Gambling (RG) Training Standards for gaming and lottery. With immediate effect, the regulator no longer requires registrar approval for RG training programmes for casino and lottery employees.

Training must still be mandatory, regularly updated, and based on best practices so that employees must understand responsible gambling, their role in player protection and how to support those showing signs of gambling harm.

AGCO stated said the change supports a more flexible, outcomes-based approach. “This change reduces red tape, encourages innovation, and maintains Ontario’s high standards for player protection. This also aligns with AGCO’s outcomes-based regulatory approach and brings greater consistency across gaming sectors, including iGaming,” it said.

AGCO recently provided igaming operators with new guidance on practices to identify and support players at risk of harm. The recommendations are published under the Registrar’s Standards for Internet Gaming – Standards 2.10 and 2.11.

In April, AGCO updated two requirements in its Lottery Standards to allow the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) to put self-serve lottery terminals on gaming floors at casinos without being subject to existing line-of-sight requirements.
