The bank\u2019s digital banking<\/strong> initiative is making it faster and safer for players to deposit and withdraw funds<\/strong>, boosting trust and convenience on online casino and sports betting platforms<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

ABSA\u2019s \u201cPlay Your Card Right<\/strong>\u201d campaign, launched on September 30, promotes the use of debit and credit cards, internet banking, mobile banking and agency services. These tools are critical for smooth, efficient payments<\/strong> in the online gambling ecosystem<\/strong>. Faster, safer and more convenient transactions build player trust and help operators manage their platforms effectively.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Bank\u2019s Director of Retail Banking, Ndabu Swere<\/strong>, said that by promoting card usage and digital banking, ABSA aims to simplify transactions<\/strong>, expand financial inclusion<\/strong> and support the country\u2019s broader digital transformation agenda. \u201cThrough this campaign, we aim to accelerate the transition to a cashless economy by offering customers safer and more convenient<\/strong> ways to bank,\u201d she said, according to the Daily News.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The initiative highlights ABSA\u2019s commitment to innovation and providing secure, accessible banking solutions for all Tanzanians. The campaign offers a total prize pool<\/strong> of TZS120m (\u20ac42,000<\/strong>), distributed through weekly, monthly and grand draws, incentivising customers to adopt digital payments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Head of Marketing and Corporate Affairs, Aron Luhanga<\/strong>, added that this transition “enhances transparency, reduces cash-handling costs and drives economic efficiency<\/strong>“.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For online gambling operators<\/strong>, the benefits are clear: more reliable payments<\/strong>, faster transactions and greater player confidence, all of which are critical for growth<\/strong> and trust in the sector. Reflecting this trend, Tanzania\u2019s online gambling industry<\/strong> has surged, generating TZS260.21bn (\u20ac90.8m)<\/strong> over the past four years, nearly double the TZS131.99bn (\u20ac46.1m) recorded in the previous period, according to the Gaming Board of Tanzania.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This growth is being fuelled by mobile money adoption<\/strong>, stricter licensing and rising interest in digital casinos and online sports betting. Over the past two years, 62 licensed operators<\/strong> invested TZS66.7bn (\u20ac23.3m)<\/strong> and offered 8,549 betting games<\/strong>, while the national lottery operator introduced online draws to enhance transparency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

ABSA\u2019s campaign could accelerate this trend<\/strong> further by making digital payments more accessible, secure and trackable. This benefits both players and regulators, supporting responsible gambling practices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
