Botswana.- Betway Botswana<\/strong> and the Botswana Football League (BFL)<\/strong> have mutually agreed to end their sponsorship deal, just months after it was signed, following discussions that revealed the need for clearer contract terms. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The decision was announced on September 23,<\/strong> after talks between the parties showed that specific contractual terms required further clarification and approval from stakeholders to align with the league’s governance policies. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The partnership, inked in May, made Betway<\/strong> the official betting partner of the FNB Botswana Premier League<\/strong> for the 2025\/2026 <\/strong>season, which commenced in August<\/strong>. Valued at millions of pula, the deal aimed to support local teams through branding, events and backing for youth and women’s football. At the time, Betway emphasised plans to “create meaningful opportunities for women in sport” and support young players in communities across the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, with the latest development, the agreement between Betway and the BFL has been terminated, with both parties committed to resolving financial matters amicably and remaining open to future engagement. A joint statement from the duo read: “Following constructive discussions, it was recognised that certain contractual clauses required further clarification and approval from key BFL stakeholders.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Betway<\/strong>, it remains invested in Botswana football’s growth and is open to re-partnering once the league’s internal processes are updated. For now, the BFL relies on partners like First National Bank (FNB)<\/strong> to keep the season going, while players from teams like Township Rollers or Jwaneng Galaxy compete without the extra boost Betway’s involvement provided.<\/p>\n\n\n
