He made the remark at the <strong>4th Annual Wise Leadership Corporate Governance Conference<\/strong> on <strong>September 18-19, 2025,<\/strong> while speaking to delegates, including leaders from business, government and various sectors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Kemorwale, who <a href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/africa\/botswana-gambling-authority-gets-new-acting-ceo\">took the helm in August 2025 <\/a>after leading responsible gambling efforts, spoke on a panel titled <strong>\u201cBuilding Strong Governance Foundations to Propel Enterprise Growth: Unlocking the Strategic Potential of State-Owned Enterprises\u201d<\/strong>. Under the theme, <strong>\u201cGovernance as a Catalyst for Botswana\u2019s Economic Growth and #MotshamekoOPhepa Transformation\u201d<\/strong>, he linked ethical practices to protecting players, boosting operator trust and driving economic contributions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Kemorwale said: \u201cIn Botswana\u2019s casinos, sports betting and lotteries, governance isn\u2019t just compliance\u2014it\u2019s the foundation for ethical innovation that builds player confidence and prevents harm.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He advocated for the use of digital tools to improve regulatory oversight and operator accountability, enabling the industry to grow responsibly. In addition, he shared firsthand accounts from casino staff and bookmakers who prioritise standards that build customer loyalty and national pride.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Panelists, including <strong>Botswana Stock Exchange <\/strong>representatives, agreed that accountability is key to avoiding expansion pitfalls.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Recent BGA initiatives under Kemorwale include a <strong>July 2025<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/africa\/botswana-and-namibia-strengthen-gaming-ties-with-mou\">MOU with Namibia\u2019s Lotteries Board<\/a> for regulatory alignment and a <strong>national study on problem gambling<\/strong> launched in <strong>January 2025<\/strong>. These efforts align the sector with global norms, turning gaming into an economic driver for tourism, employment and fiscal stability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Delegates gained practical tools, including community-involved licensing processes, technology-driven compliance audits and social impact metrics.
