Uganda.- The National Lotteries and Gaming Regulatory Board of Uganda (NLGRB)<\/strong> has strengthened collaboration with district leaders in Lira and Gulu<\/strong>, towns in northern Uganda, through a series of stakeholder engagement meetings. The sessions aimed to raise awareness of the Board\u2019s mandate, encourage responsible gaming and promote cooperation in enforcement and compliance<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The NLGRB said: \u201cThese stakeholder engagements were aimed at enlightening leaders on the Board\u2019s mandate<\/strong>, promoting responsible gaming and fostering collaboration<\/strong> in enforcement and compliance.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Attendees included chief administrative officers, senior management staff, community development officers, health educators and sub-accountants. The meetings provided a platform<\/strong> for local leaders to share perspectives on challenges posed by gambling in their communities<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Participants raised concerns about the widespread presence of slot machines and fish tables<\/strong>, noting that underage gambling often occurs secretly. Discussions also touched on regulatory clarity<\/strong>, including the distance required between gambling premises and restricted areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Participants also noted “perceived contradictions” between the Uganda Revenue Authority\u2019s Electronic Fiscal Receipting and Invoicing System (EFRIS)<\/strong> and the Lotteries and Gaming Act. The EFRIS<\/strong> is a digital platform<\/strong> used to track sales, generate official receipts and ensure tax compliance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

New board builds community trust<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Launched in August, the new board<\/strong> of the National Lotteries and Gaming Regulatory Board (NLGRB) is driving growth and responsibility in Uganda\u2019s gambling sector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Officials welcomed the Board\u2019s outreach<\/strong>, commending the initiative and expressing appreciation for the opening of regional offices. Many said the sessions had improved their understanding of the regulator\u2019s role.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The NLGRB said: \u201cParticipants expressed appreciation<\/strong> for the engagement<\/strong>, noting that it deepened their understanding of the Board\u2019s mandate<\/strong> and the vital role districts play in fostering responsible gaming<\/strong>. They emphasised the importance of continued training and sensitisation to equip leaders with the knowledge and skills needed to safeguard their communities.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

By focusing on public awareness, community partnerships and regulatory clarity, the Board demonstrates how gaming can be conducted safely while contributing to economic and social development<\/strong> in the country.<\/p>\n\n\n
