South Africa.- The Gauteng Gambling Board (GGB)<\/strong> has convened a strategic planning session to align its regulatory priorities and strengthen operational oversight in response to evolving challenges in the gambling sector. Held at Sandton <\/strong>on September 6<\/strong>, the meeting was led by Chief Executive Officer Karabo Mbele<\/strong> and attended by all GGB officials and key stakeholders, including industry representatives and the media.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking at the meeting, Mbele outlined key strategic priorities, including strengthening the regulation of online gambling, intensifying efforts to combat illegal operations, and enhancing compliance measures among licensed operators. Participants reviewed the watchdog\u2019s annual performance and refined enforcement strategies to ensure all gambling activities in the province are conducted responsibly and in line with the law.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This planning session coincided with ongoing legislative reforms in Gauteng. In August 2025, MEC Lebogang Maile<\/strong> initiated a consultative review<\/a> of the Gauteng Gambling Act<\/strong> to modernise the regulatory framework and address the growth of digital and online gambling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The GGB has also been strengthening regional cooperation. Earlier this year, the GGB had an engagement with the Lesotho Casino Board<\/strong> to improve collaboration on licensing, supervision and policy coordination. These efforts reflect the board\u2019s broader goal of aligning its strategies with both national and international regulatory standards.<\/p>\n\n\n
