The crackdown underscores the government&#8217;s commitment to protecting the <strong>legal gambling industry<\/strong> and ensuring consumer safety.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <strong>Lotteries and Gaming Regulatory Board (NLGRB)<\/strong>, in partnership with the <strong>police<\/strong>, led the operation, which was dubbed <strong>Mashine Haramu,<\/strong> meaning \u201cillegal machine\u201d in the local Uganda language. It targeted bars and hidden premises across Masaka City and Mpigi District, resulting in more than 30 machines being seized in Masaka and another 20 in Mpigi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The LGRB said in a statement: \u201cOur <strong>Enforcement Team<\/strong>, in collaboration with the dedicated men and women of the police, carried out a <strong>successful operation<\/strong> under Operation Mashine Haramu. Our team confiscated the illegal gaming machines, and several premises were sealed off.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A suspect from the Masaka District was <strong>arrested<\/strong> for operating slot machines at a bar without a licence. She is expected to <strong>face charges<\/strong> at Makindye Standards Court under the Lotteries and Gaming Act Cap. 334.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Regulators emphasised that illegal machines <strong>undermine the legal market<\/strong>, divert government revenue and expose vulnerable communities to gambling harms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The NLGRB issued a <strong>stern warning<\/strong> to operators of illegal gambling machines. \u201cWe issue a strong warning that anyone involved in the <strong>manufacture, supply, assembly<\/strong> or operation of illegal gaming machines is in direct <strong>violation of the law<\/strong>, undermining the legal gambling industry.
