It represents an effort by the department to amplify the North West Province’s economic potential on a global stage. By directly reaching out to foreign missions, DEDECT seeks to foster practical partnerships that can pave the way for inclusive growth, job creation and innovation.

The initiative also reflects DEDECT’s broader approach of leveraging global networks. Earlier this year, the department hosted several G20-linked forums, such as the Education Working Group in May, and embarked on targeted local development initiatives such as training programs for tourism safety in August and a Business Forum Colloquium in July, which supported MSMEs.

These talks build momentum toward the upcoming North West Investment and Job Summit in November 2025—an event designed to galvanise local, national and international stakeholders around well-defined investment packages in sectors such as Special Economic Zones and industrial infrastructure. Importantly, the summit aligns with South Africa’s G20 objectives of sustainable development, financial stability and shared prosperity.

MEC Lenkopane previously underscored the power of global platforms during the G20 Education Forum, describing such initiatives as pivotal in promoting cultural exchange and social resilience. With continued emphasis on inclusiveness and accountability, the recent approach also complements the department’s efforts to realign and revitalise public entities, such as ongoing reforms within state-owned bodies like the North West Parks & Tourism Board.

   See also:

See also: Botswana President hails Gambling Authority as sector gears up for 2,000 new jobs

The initiative aims to shine a spotlight on investment opportunities in manufacturing, tourism, trade, environmental protection and biodiversity development across the province.

A high-level delegation from South Africa's North West Department of Economic Development, Environment, Conservation and Tourism (DEDECT), including the acting CEO of the North West Gambling Board, is engaging foreign embassies to attract investment.
