Botswana.- Botswana’s Gambling Authority has secured the first-place award in the Parastatals Regulator Category<\/strong> at the 2025 Botswana Consumer Fair<\/a>. The award, presented during the fair’s ongoing events at the Gaborone Fairgrounds<\/strong>, highlights the authority’s dedication to effective oversight and public welfare in the gambling sector. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This achievement marks the first time such a category has been featured in the fair’s award lineup, signalling the growing importance of regulatory standards in Botswana’s economic diversification efforts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the Gambling Authority, the award underscores its role in promoting a “diversified, compliant and safe gambling industry\u201d. The honour specifically acknowledges the regulator’s ongoing efforts in issuing licences, monitoring industry operations and advocating for responsible gambling practices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Established in 2012<\/strong> under the Gambling Act<\/strong>, the Gambling Authority regulates all gambling activities in Botswana, including casinos, lotteries, betting and bingo. The authority also provides resources like counselling services and the Problem Gambling Severity Index<\/strong> to help individuals address gambling-related issues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The accolade comes hot on the heels of President Boko\u2019s visit to the Gambling Authority<\/a>, where he praised the watchdog\u2019s commitment to public welfare and encouraged them to \u201ccontinue working closely together to achieve maximum productivity\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Botswana Consumer Fair, running from August 25 to 31, 2025<\/strong>, under the theme “Embracing Innovation and Technology for Economic Transition,<\/strong>” drew more than 500 exhibitors <\/strong>across 28 categories<\/strong> and is expected to attract more than 36,000 visitors<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

From day one, the Gambling Authority has had a strong presence at the fair, with its stall drawing crowds interested in licensing opportunities and responsible gambling education.<\/p>\n\n\n
