Malawi.- The Malawi Gaming and Lotteries Authority (MAGLA)<\/strong> has boosted its support for this year\u2019s Nation Publications Limited (NPL) Mothers\u2019 Fun Run<\/strong> by donating K20 million (\u20ac10,000)<\/strong>, helping to advance maternal and neonatal health initiatives across local communities and health facilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Originally set at K15m (\u20ac7,500), MAGLA increased the donation after learning that the campaign is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year. The cheque was officially handed over on August 27, marking another milestone in the authority\u2019s ongoing commitment to safe motherhood<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking at the handover, MAGLA Director General Racheal Mijiga<\/strong> praised the initiative for its impact on the country\u2019s health landscape.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We have seen improvements in both infant mortality and maternal deaths. Mothers are the backbone of society, and children\u2019s early development is critical. It is therefore important for individuals and companies<\/strong> to contribute towards safe motherhood for the sustainability of Malawi<\/strong>,\u201d said Mijiga, according to the Malawi Voice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

NPL spokesperson Aubrey Mchulu highlighted MAGLA\u2019s consistent support over the years. He said: “We are very thankful for this donation. MAGLA has been a consistent partner<\/strong>, and this will go a long way in helping us move closer to achieving zero maternal deaths in the country.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Over the years, the Mothers\u2019 Fun Run has equipped district hospitals and health facilities with essential maternal and neonatal care tools.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This year\u2019s donation will support health facilities of the country<\/strong>, including the Kasungu District Health Office and 25 satellite clinics. Procurements will include delivery beds, oxygen concentrators, suction machines and other essential maternity equipment, ensuring frontline health workers are better equipped to save lives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

MAGLA\u2019s increased contribution underscores the role of corporate social responsibility<\/strong> in the gaming sector<\/strong>, demonstrating how the industry can make a tangible difference in communities.<\/p>\n\n\n
