Ghana.- The Ghana Football Association (GFA)<\/strong> has announced a ban on betting<\/strong> across all local competitions<\/strong>, aiming to protect the integrity of domestic football and ensure fair play. At the same time, the Association signalled that it is willing to collaborate with responsible, licensed betting operators<\/strong> in ways that support the sport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kurt Okraku<\/strong>, GFA President and 2nd<\/sup> Vice President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), made the announcement at the Association\u2019s congress on August 12.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Okraku said: \u201cNo betting company is allowed to take bets on our domestic leagues. We are, however, open to partnerships<\/strong> with credible, legal betting companies who wish to engage with our football ecosystem transparently and ethically.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The ban applies to the Ghana Premier League, Division One League, Women\u2019s Premier League and all other local tournaments<\/strong>. Okraku said the step is critical to maintaining transparency, ensuring fair play and keeping matches free from outside influence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Responsible betting supported, rule-breakers punished<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Even while the GFA tightens regulations, it still welcomes responsible betting companies. Okraku said sponsorship is important for the growth of football, but any partnership<\/strong> must follow principles of transparency, ethics and integrity<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Association has already launched legal action against companies operating outside the rules. \u201cWe are pursuing legal action<\/strong> locally and internationally against companies that unlawfully take bets on our leagues. Our legal department is working closely with reputable legal firms to confront these activities head-on,\u201d said Okraku.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These are among broader reforms prior to the season. By outlining rules around betting partnerships and tightening governance, the GFA aims to keep domestic football competitive and credible<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Okraku urged clubs, stakeholders and fans to report any breaches of the ban, warning that those who ignore the rules will face strong regulatory and legal consequences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The GFA has made it clear that while ethical partnerships are supported<\/strong>, any attempt to compromise the game will be met with decisive action.<\/p>\n\n\n
