Tanzania.- Sports betting operator SportPesa has extended its sponsorship deal with Tanzania’s Young Africans Sports Club (Yanga SC). Valued at TZS 21.75 billion (€7.1m), the new agreement is slated to last three years.

Under the terms of the agreement, SportPesa will continue to be the official betting sponsor of Yanga SC, building on an existing eight-year partnership between the two entities. The deal underscores SportPesa’s strategy to amplify its reach and engagement with local fans while leveraging the popularity of Yanga SC to drive brand loyalty.

Doreen Kwayu, Head of Operations at SportPesa Tanzania, said: “This is another incredible moment in the Yanga SC and SportPesa journey. As we look towards the future and the 2025/26 Premier League championship, we are delighted to be standing alongside Yanga SC once again.

“Supporting every level of football, from elite teams through to grassroots, is a huge part of what we do at SportPesa, and we look forward to continuing to work with the Young Africans Sports Club to support all of their teams.”

For Yanga SC, the financial injection empowers it to focus on player development, make facility upgrades and compete effectively in CAF Champions League campaigns. The funding also covers the club’s women’s team and grassroots football programs.

The new sponsorship deal comes hot on the heels of SportPesa’s payment of TZS 262.5 million (€86,000) to Yanga SC for clinching the 2024/25 Premier League title. The win makes it their 31st Premier League championship, cementing the club’s position as one of the most successful in Tanzanian football history.

Tarimba Abbas, SportPesa Tanzania’s Director of Administration and Compliance, said: “Our partnership with Yanga is a bond built on shared goals and a love for the game. We’re honoured to continue this journey.”

The agreement aligns with SportPesa’s aim to boost its visibility and acceptance across African markets, evident in its recent ten-year sponsorship of Kenya’s FKF Premier League and a Ksh 15 million donation to the SportPesa National Sevens Circuit.
