The Gaming Board of Tanzania (GBT) announced that <strong>tax earnings<\/strong> from gambling activities surged from TSh131.99bn (\u20ac544m) in the 2020\/21 financial year to TSh260.21bn (\u20ac1.07bn) in 2024\/25.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tax revenue has become a<strong> powerhouse for the economy<\/strong>, soaring a staggering <strong>97 per cent<\/strong> in just four years. This was highlighted at a recent working session organised in partnership with GBT and the Office of the Treasury Registrar, underscoring the gambling industry\u2019s expanding role in driving Tanzania\u2019s national economy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>GBT\u2019s director of services, <strong>Daniel Sumayan<\/strong>, said: &#8220;By the end of June 2025, the gambling industry has contributed to the creation of approximately 30,000 jobs across the country in both formal and informal sectors.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"780\" height=\"470\" src=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/africa\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/7\/2025\/08\/TANZANIA.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-6710\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Daniel Sumayan announces record revenue and 30,000 jobs for Tanzania\u2019s gaming sector.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Sumayan also highlighted strong <strong>investor confidence<\/strong>, noting that over TSh66.7bn (\u20ac275m) has flowed into Tanzania from new investors in just two years, backing the rapid growth of the industry and its increasing contribution to national development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Industry hailed as it benefits the nation<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Government authorities praised the industry&#8217;s success. <strong>Revocatus Kassimba<\/strong> from the government spokesperson\u2019s office commended the GBT for <strong>driving revenue and job creation<\/strong> and reaffirmed the government\u2019s commitment to supporting proper regulation to ensure the industry benefits the nation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The sector exceeded revenue expectations despite the <strong>challenge of illegal activities<\/strong>, the GBT said, particularly \u201cdubwi,\u201d a Tanzanian slang term for unlicensed gambling machines operating in unauthorised areas, which could divert significant revenue from the government.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Established under Act No. 4 of 2003, the GBT began operations on July 1, 2003.
