Zambia.- The Bookmakers and iGaming Association (BIGA)<\/strong>, Zambia\u2019s official body representing licensed betting and gaming operators, has strongly refuted claims made by entrepreneur Dumisani Ncube<\/strong> that he was offered a bribe by one of its members.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ncube, a Zambian businessman known for his involvement in agriculture, logistics and education, had previously made public remarks suggesting he was offered a K9.4 million<\/strong> (\u20ac353,637) bribe by a sportsbook to promote betting online, a claim that quickly gained attention online.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, BIGA has pushed back on the assertion, stating that none of its members ever approached Ncube with such a proposal. A statement from the association read: \u201cWe wish to clarify that none of our members have made such an approach or offer to Mr. Ncube. It is important to note that only BIGA members have the financial and legal capacity to make offers of that magnitude, and no such engagement has been made.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

BIGA also called for a more responsible discussion around betting in the country. The association emphasised that wagering, like any other economic activity, is a matter of personal choice and that no individual is forced to participate. The body noted: \u201cWe believe that responsible gaming practices, when promoted and adhered to, coexist with other sectors of economic activity in a fair and competitive environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt is unfortunate that betting, a legally recognised industry contributing significantly to the Zambian economy through taxation, licensing fees, and employment opportunities, is being used for public posturing or clout chasing.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

BIGA concluded by reiterating its commitment to promoting responsible gaming and supporting national development through regulated operations and community engagement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While Ncube has not provided additional evidence to support his claim, his remarks have sparked debate online about the influence of betting companies in Zambia and their role in public life. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

As of now, no betting company has come forward to confirm Ncube\u2019s version of events, and the matter remains unsubstantiated.<\/p>\n\n\n
