With these numbers, Egypt asserts itself as an active African gaming nation.

Egypt stands out because, while it’s clearly pinned in North Africa on the map, it also holds a big political and economic seat at the table in the Middle East and North Africa region (MENA). This gives Egypt an advantage by combining Africa’s strong gaming culture with the growing technology investments seen in the Middle East.

The MENA average sits at 10.8 hours per week, and Egypt leads by a full hour with an impressive 11.8 hours a week. Niko Partners, a company that studies video games and esports markets, released these findings in the 2025 MENA Gamer Behaviour and Market Insights report.

A total of 1,580 gamers from Egypt, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, formed the survey, which showed that Egypt is gaining attention for high player engagement.

“This is a gamer base that’s deeply invested in their time online. With a young, digitally plugged-in crowd and a growing appetite for competition, Egypt is confidently leading the continent’s push into the global gaming spotlight.

Egypt’s engagement numbers point to a loyal, hungry and fast-growing gaming community. Esports is gaining momentum, too, with 54.6 per cent of players in the region taking part as viewers, players or competitors. “Women now make up more than 37 per cent of gamers, reflecting a more inclusive and diverse scene,” the report said.

Gaming is booming across the wider MENA region. By the end of 2024, the gamer count hit 72 million, and it is on track to level up to 84.3 million by 2029. Meanwhile, revenue is set to power up from $2.0bn to $2.8bn, proving this market is no longer emerging but is becoming a major player.

Egypt’s home-grown energy, cross-continental influence and unmatched player dedication are pushing both Africa and the MENA region forward on the global gaming stage.

   See also:

See also: Morocco aims to double gaming revenue by 2030

Egypt leads regional gaming surge with unmatched player engagement and cross-continental influence.

Egypt is leading the MENA region in player engagement, with gamers averaging 11.8 hours weekly, significantly above the regional average.
