{"id":4909,"date":"2025-07-11T01:22:58","date_gmt":"2025-07-11T04:22:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/africa\/?p=4909"},"modified":"2026-04-19T15:39:21","modified_gmt":"2026-04-19T18:39:21","slug":"ghanas-gaming-industry-supports-purple-month-campaign-with-hefty-donation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/africa\/ghanas-gaming-industry-supports-purple-month-campaign-with-hefty-donation","title":{"rendered":"Ghana\u2019s gaming industry supports Purple Month campaign with hefty donation"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The funding, pooled from member companies such as Betway, Sportybet, Premierbet, Msports, Betfox and 22bet has been put towards several initiatives<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>Ghana.- The <strong>Ghana Association of Sports Betting Operators (GHASBO)<\/strong> has reported donating <strong>GH\u00a2235,000<\/strong> (\u20ac19,219) to support the <strong>Gaming Commission of Ghana&#8217;s &#8220;Purple Month&#8221; campaign<\/strong> held in <strong>May 2025<\/strong>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The initiative, which featured the theme <strong>\u201cPromoting Mental Wellness through Responsible Gaming<\/strong>\u201d raised awareness about mental health challenges associated with excessive gaming and encouraged responsible betting habits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to GHASBO, the donation aligns with its broader initiative to create a responsible gaming ecosystem that prioritises ethics, sustainability and the protection of vulnerable individuals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The funding, pooled from member companies such as Betway, Sportybet, Premierbet, Msports, Betfox and 22bet, has supported various initiatives, including responsible gaming programs at multiple universities across the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/africa\/purple-month-gambling-sensitization-drive-launched-at-accra-technical-university-in-ghana?utm_source=chatgpt.com\">Events at Accra Technical University (ATU)<\/a> and the <strong>University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA)<\/strong> reached more than 1,500 students, who learnt about the importance of responsible gaming and resources for seeking help when needed.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The campaign comes at a much-needed time for Ghana as the country witnesses a surge in online betting platforms, and more youths are becoming vulnerable to problem gambling. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In May, the Gaming Commission welcomed <a href=\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/africa\/ghanas-gaming-commission-gets-new-board-bold-reform-agenda-unveiled\">an 11-member governing board<\/a> led by <strong>MP James Enu<\/strong>.
