Uganda.- The National Lotteries and Gaming Regulatory Board (NLGRB)<\/strong> has completed specialised training for its new compliance and enforcement officers, in partnership with ABS Consulting Group Limited<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The new staff were trained to uphold key professional standards, such as integrity, objectivity, confidentiality and competence, while carrying out their duties as outlined in the newly developed compliance and enforcement manual. They also learnt that the inspection process is based on crucial principles that ensure fairness, effectiveness and professionalism, including evidence-based decision making, risk-focused approach, proportionality, compliance, information sharing and coordination.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During inspections, they are taught to treat operators with fairness, courtesy and respect as well as prioritise their rights and privacy while ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The workshop emphasised utilising a risk-based approach to inspections, which allows the enforcement team to focus on high-risk operators and reduce the regulatory burden on compliant, low-risk businesses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the final sessions of the training, the team learned about the practical steps for planning and executing inspections. The last module covered how to report non-compliance and document inspection findings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This initiative comes as Uganda\u2019s gaming sector expands, attracting local and international operators. With industry growth, there\u2019s an increased need for strong oversight to promote responsible gaming and protect consumers. The NLGRB has been introducing reforms like stricter licensing and enhanced digital monitoring to strengthen regulation.<\/p>\n\n\n
