According to the Authority, teachers are the second parents to students in school and are well-positioned to channel their message to learners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

Botswana.- The Botswana Gambling Authority<\/strong> has recently launched a responsible gambling campaign aimed at curbing the growth of underage gambling in the country. Titled \u201cDreams Before Dices,\u201d<\/strong> the initiative targets teachers and students at secondary schools, educating them about the risks associated with underage betting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On June 17,<\/strong> the Authority visited Kumakwane Junior Secondary School<\/strong>, where they engaged students in discussions about the importance of prioritising education over gambling. Teachers were also equipped with resources on identifying early signs of problem gambling among students and how to effectively support those affected.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The regulator subsequently made visits to Nare Sereto Secondary School<\/strong> and Thobega Junior Secondary School<\/strong> in Mmankgodi<\/strong>, continuing its drive for responsible gambling and education awareness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In Botswana, the official minimum age for gambling is 21 years old<\/strong>, as outlined in the Gambling Act of 2012<\/strong>. In April, reports emerged that the government is considering reducing the legal gambling age limit<\/a> to 18<\/strong>. This plan was met with strong opposition from social groups who argue that 18-year-olds may not have the maturity to gamble responsibly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pending the outcome of the review, the Authority remains vigilant, cracking down on any form of underage gambling and collaborating with stakeholders to protect vulnerable individuals.<\/p>\n\n\n
