Botswana.- The Gambling Authority of Botswana has announced the appointment of Boemo Ntwaagae <\/strong>as its new data protection officer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As a certified privacy professional and attorney, Ntwaagae brings expertise in data protection, regulatory compliance and privacy program management to the authority.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She holds two certifications in privacy (CIPP\/E and CIPM) from the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP)<\/strong>, demonstrating her proficiency in bridging local regulations and global standards like GDPR.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Prior to joining the Gambling Authority, Boemo was the Group Data Protection Officer at Capricorn Investment Holdings Botswana<\/strong>, where she oversaw privacy and compliance for Bank Gaborone, CIH Insurance Brokers and Peo Finance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In her new role, Boemo will spearhead the implementation of the Botswana Data Protection Act of 2024<\/strong>, promoting a culture of accountability and data ethics within the organisation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Data Protection Act 2024<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

On October 29, 2024<\/strong>, Botswana’s National Assembly passed the Data Protection Act 2024<\/strong>, introducing new personal data processing regulations and repealing the 2018 Data Protection Act<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The new Act outlines specific responsibilities for data controllers, processors and sub-processors, introduces regulations for handling children’s data and expands the role of the Data Protection Commissioner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Boemo will ensure the authority’s data handling practices align with the Act’s requirements. <\/p>\n\n\n
