{"id":3851,"date":"2025-06-11T04:54:55","date_gmt":"2025-06-11T07:54:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/africa\/?p=3851"},"modified":"2026-04-19T16:24:02","modified_gmt":"2026-04-19T19:24:02","slug":"ugandas-gaming-regulator-and-police-join-forces-to-tackle-minor-gambling","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/africa\/ugandas-gaming-regulator-and-police-join-forces-to-tackle-minor-gambling","title":{"rendered":"Uganda gaming regulator and police join forces to tackle underage gambling\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The Board&#8217;s partnership with law enforcement and its expanded regional presence highlight its commitment to enhancing oversight, accountability and responsible gaming in the country&#8217;s gambling market.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>Uganda.- The <strong>National Lotteries and Gaming Regulatory Board (NLGRB)<\/strong> has convened a meeting with police officials from the <strong>Rwizi Region<\/strong> to discuss strategies for combating underage gaming and non-adherence to gambling regulations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The meeting, held on <strong>May 27 <\/strong>at the <strong>Lake View Hotel in Mbarara<\/strong>, drew attendance from senior law enforcement officials, including district police commanders and officers in charge of criminal investigations, as well as local leaders and gaming industry experts from several districts across the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Central to the discussion were the pressing challenges facing the gaming industry, especially minor gambling and regulatory non-compliance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In his opening remarks, <strong>Denis Mudene<\/strong>, NLGRB&#8217;s CEO, underscored the crucial role the partnership between law enforcement and the gaming regulator plays in promoting a compliant gaming industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to Mudene, the sector is experiencing rapid expansion, and as such, there is a need for stricter regulations to prevent harm to citizens, especially children.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>SSP Bosco Bakashaba<\/strong>, Deputy Regional Police Commander, emphasised the responsibility of the police to protect citizens. He called on police officers to maintain high standards of integrity when engaging with illegal gaming operators and to support the Board&#8217;s regulatory initiatives as stipulated by law.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At the meeting, the NLGRB unveiled its plan to expand its presence by opening six new offices in districts such as <strong>Mbarara<\/strong>, <strong>Gulu<\/strong> and <strong>Mbale<\/strong>, effective <strong>July 1, 2025<\/strong>.
