{"id":3495,"date":"2025-05-30T12:48:04","date_gmt":"2025-05-30T15:48:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/africa\/?p=3495"},"modified":"2026-04-19T16:39:06","modified_gmt":"2026-04-19T19:39:06","slug":"pos-attendant-bags-jail-term-for-stealing-employers-n1m-to-gamble","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/africa\/pos-attendant-bags-jail-term-for-stealing-employers-n1m-to-gamble","title":{"rendered":"POS attendant bags jail term for stealing employer&#8217;s N1m to gamble"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The prosecutor alleges that Point of Sales attendant actions contravene Section 383 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ogun State, 2006.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>Nigeria.- A <strong>24-year-old<\/strong> Point of Sale (POS) attendant has been sentenced to <strong>18 months<\/strong> in prison by an <strong>Ota Magistrates&#8217; Court in Ogun State<\/strong> for stealing <strong>N1 million<\/strong> (\u20ac557) from his employer to gamble.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to <strong>Inspector E.O. Adaraloye<\/strong>, the prosecutor of the case, the accused, <strong>Yusuf Olamilekan<\/strong>, committed the offence at<strong> 6 pm on April 7 in Sango-Ota<\/strong>. He alleged that Olamilekan fraudulently withdrew N1 million from <strong>Emeka and Jane Company<\/strong>&#8216;s account without consent and squandered it on games of chance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Adaraloye said that Olamilekan&#8217;s actions contravene <strong>Section 383 of the Criminal Code<\/strong>, Laws of Ogun State, 2006, which defines and prescribes punishment for the offence of stealing. However, the defendant pleaded not guilty to the theft charge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While delivering her judgement, <strong>Magistrate Mrs O.O. Fadairo<\/strong> ruled that the prosecution had successfully proven the defendant&#8217;s guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The court sentenced Olamilekan to 18 months imprisonment, with an option to pay a fine of <strong>N60,000 <\/strong>(\u20ac33.43).
