South Africa.- The National Lotteries Commission (NLC) has opened discussions with the Western Cape Government on potential collaboration in arts, culture and sport. NLC Commissioner Jodi Scholtz visited the Western Cape Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport in Cape Town on Monday, October 5, as part of a week-long programme of engagements with provincial governments. The meeting examined opportunities for the NLC and the provincial government to collaborate on initiatives funded through the lottery system.

Western Cape minister of cultural affairs and sport Ricardo Mackenzie said closer cooperation could help increase investment in the cultural, arts and sports sectors and support organisations carrying out community-focused projects. He added that the partnership could enable more initiatives to reach communities across the province and deliver longer-term benefits.

Mackenzie said: “We look forward to exploring areas of collaboration that will enable us to expand our collective impact and contribute meaningfully to the development of communities across the Western Cape.”

During the visit, NLC Board Chairperson King Tembinkosi Bonakele will also hand over a cheque to Cricket South Africa to support preparations for the 2027 Cricket World Cup.

The commission said the engagement highlights the importance of collaboration between government and key stakeholders in creating sustainable opportunities and delivering meaningful impact in communities. It added that cooperation between the two sides could strengthen initiatives supporting participation, development and opportunities in communities across the Western Cape.
