Burundi.- Burundi\u2019s National Lottery<\/strong> (LONA) has begun planning major projects for the next five years, with the organisation looking to shape its priorities for future development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Management and senior staff gathered for a professional retreat in Gitega on August 21 to review the lottery\u2019s plans for the period ahead, according to an announcement on LONA\u2019s official website. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The organisation\u2019s management <\/strong>also brought together employees heading different departments involved in LONA\u2019s day-to-day operations, according to a Facebook post. LONA said the retreat concluded with the plans to be implemented being \u201capproved and compiled into a booklet\u201d that will serve as a guide for their execution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The initiative comes as LONA continues to strengthen its regulatory role and regional cooperation. The lottery recently undertook a knowledge-exchange visit to Guinea<\/a> to exchange experience on gaming regulation and strengthen institutional cooperation across the regional gaming sector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Burundi has also strengthened financial compliance<\/a> in the gambling sector, with new rules imposing a 50 per cent penalty on unpaid gaming fees and allowing licences to be suspended when outstanding amounts remain unpaid for more than one month, reinforcing compliance across the sector.<\/p>\n\n\n
