Uganda.- Uganda\u2019s National Lotteries and Gaming Regulatory Board (NLGRB)<\/strong> has arrested a Chinese national following an enforcement operation that identified several unlicensed gaming shops in Nebbi District<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The operation followed a tip-off that led officers to gaming outlets in Pakwale, Lajji, Kei and Jupalanga villages<\/strong> in Nebbi District, near the Zombo border<\/strong>. According to the NLGRB, several gaming machines were seized during the raid and taken as exhibits to support the prosecution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The regulator said the gaming shops were operating without the required licences and in areas where gaming activities are prohibited, thereby breaching Uganda\u2019s Lotteries and Gaming Act, Cap. 334<\/strong>, which governs the licensing and operation of gaming businesses in the country.<\/p>\n\n\n

The operator of the unlicensed gambling shops, identified as Lin Xiaolin<\/strong>, is expected to appear before the Standards, Utilities and Wildlife Court in Makindye<\/strong> to face charges related to the alleged violations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Nebbi operation forms part of the regulator\u2019s wider efforts under its Operation Mashine Haramu campaign<\/strong> to identify and shut down illegal gaming businesses and remove unauthorised gaming machines from circulation. It comes shortly after another intelligence-led enforcement drive in Uganda\u2019s eastern region resulted in the closure of four illegal gaming shops in Kibuku<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
