The five-day initiative will bring regulators, industry stakeholders and communities together around responsible gambling.

Nigeria.- The Lagos State Lotteries and Gaming Authority (LSLGA) has joined the growing list of African gaming stakeholders supporting Africa Safer Gambling Week 2026, scheduled to run from September 7 to 11.

The campaign is being organised by the African iGaming Alliance (AiA) as the continent’s gambling sector continues to expand across online and land-based channels. The initiative is focused on keeping player protection and responsible gambling practices alongside industry growth.

LSLGA chief executive officer Bashir Are said the initiative provides an opportunity for regulators, gaming companies and communities to address safer gambling collectively. He added that player protection and public awareness should remain central to regulation, noting that “protecting players, promoting awareness and encouraging responsible gambling must remain at the heart of a well-regulated gaming industry.”

Are noted that the Authority’s participation reflects its focus on creating a safer gaming environment for players in Lagos and supporting responsible gambling practices more broadly.

The regulator pointed to its SAFEPLAY programme as part of its efforts to promote safer gambling. It also highlighted cooperation with gaming operators, other regulators, civil society organisations and industry stakeholders as an important part of its player-protection approach.

LSLGA’s support gives the campaign backing from a state-level gambling regulator in Nigeria, where Lagos is one of the country’s key gaming markets. The Authority said collaboration between regulators, operators and other stakeholders will be necessary to strengthen responsible gambling standards as the African market develops.

Africa Safer Gambling Week 2026 will take place across five days, with participating organisations expected to use the campaign to increase awareness of safer gambling and player-protection measures.

LSLGA said it would continue supporting initiatives that encourage responsible gaming and contribute to a more sustainable gambling industry in Lagos, Nigeria and the wider African sector.
