ZGA chair Noah Malungila says regulatory compliance has improved since 2021 as the association urges operators to meet gambling rules and tax obligations.

Zambia.- Zambia Gaming Association (ZGA) has welcomed the re-election of the country’s President Hakainde Hichilema for a second term, calling on gaming operators to strengthen regulatory compliance and meet their tax obligations.

ZGA chairperson Noah Malungila said Hichilema’s continued leadership could strengthen and grow the country’s gaming industry. He made the comments in an interview with ZNBC News, according to Open Zambia.

Hichilema was declared president-elect by the Electoral Commission of Zambia on August 18 after winning the August 13 presidential election. He is scheduled to be sworn in for his second five-year term on September 1.

Malungila said the sector had recorded notable improvements in regulatory compliance since Hichilema took office in 2021. He said the renewed mandate reflected public confidence in his leadership and represented a continued commitment to peace, development and economic progress.

He also called on gaming industry participants to uphold the law by complying with regulations and meeting their tax obligations to the relevant authorities.

The comments come against the backdrop of previous ZGA enforcement efforts. In February, the association announced nationwide inspections of betting and gaming operators to check licensing compliance and identify illegal gambling activity.

ZGA also warned that non-compliant operators could face shutdown or deregistration over breaches of gambling regulations and tax obligations. At the time, Malungila said both local and foreign operators would be inspected.
