Betway also ranked fourth in South Africa with 35.54 million visits.

The betting sites appeared alongside some of the world’s largest digital platforms. Google was the most visited website in Nigeria with 318.45 million visits, followed by YouTube with 46.42 million. In South Africa, Google led with 484.78 million visits, while YouTube and Facebook ranked second and third with 235.33 million and 66.42 million visits respectively.

The significance of the rankings extends beyond the individual traffic figures. Recent industry data shows that online betting has become one of the dominant forms of digital gambling across much of the continent.

Blask data covering the first half of 2026 found that online betting was the leading gambling category in 27 of the 37 African countries it tracked. Betting accounted for an especially large share of online gambling interest in Tanzania, at 98.1 per cent, and Uganda, at 95.2 per cent.

Recent consumer research points to a key factor behind that growth: mobile access. GeoPoll’s 2026 Betting in Africa report, based on a survey of 2,866 respondents across Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa, Tanzania and Uganda, found that 95 per cent of bettors used a mobile device to place bets. Football was the main betting product for 67 per cent of respondents.

This mobile-first behaviour helps explain the strong traffic generated by betting platforms, as users can place bets through websites and apps without visiting physical betting shops. Smartphones give users access to bookmakers throughout the day, while mobile payments and live betting have further lowered the barriers to placing wagers online.

The broader African online gambling market is also expanding. A report published by Gaming Compliance International in July 2026 found that regulated online gambling revenue across Africa increased from $4.4bn in 2024 to $5.2bn in 2025.

The growth is taking place alongside increased competition between operators. Blask’s Q1 2026 ranking placed betPawa and Betway at the top of the African gambling-brand market, with the two brands together accounting for 51 per cent of the cumulative Blask Index generated by the top 20 brands.

The latest market data also shows that demand remains concentrated around established betting brands. Blask’s Nigeria market data for July 2026 placed SportyBet first by Brand’s Accumulated Power, with a 41.34 per cent share, followed by Bet9ja at 26.63 per cent and BetKing at 15.47 per cent.

Taken together, the data put SportyBet’s and Betway’s appearance in the Statisense rankings into a broader context. Their presence among the five most visited websites in Nigeria and South Africa provides a snapshot of how online betting has become embedded in Africa’s digital economy, with mobile devices increasingly serving as the main channel through which consumers access betting services.

While the data do not show the number of individual bettors on either site, as one user can generate multiple visits, they provide an indication of the traffic reaching the two betting platforms.

   See also:

See also: Senegal opens flagship horse race to betting as racing sector targets overhaul

SportyBet and Betway entered the top-five most visited websites in Nigeria and South Africa in July 2026, as recent data points to the growing popularity of mobile and online betting across the continent.

SportyBet and Betway have secured top-five positions for website visits in Nigeria and South Africa, respectively, in July 2026, highlighting the significant penetration of online betting in these key African markets.
