{"id":31517,"date":"2026-08-20T06:06:15","date_gmt":"2026-08-20T09:06:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/africa\/?p=31517"},"modified":"2026-08-27T05:28:44","modified_gmt":"2026-08-27T08:28:44","slug":"north-west-gambling-board-launches-responsible-gambling-soccer-tournament","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/africa\/north-west-gambling-board-launches-responsible-gambling-soccer-tournament","title":{"rendered":"North West Gambling Board launches responsible gambling soccer tournament"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The initiative forms part of the board\u2019s responsible gambling efforts, with particular attention on preventing gambling among school-age children.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">South Africa.- The <strong>North West Gambling Board (NWGB)<\/strong> has launched its first <strong>Responsible Gambling Soccer Tournament<\/strong>, bringing together high schools from across the province as part of an awareness campaign against underage gambling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The tournament, organised under the North West Provincial Government\u2019s Department of Economic Development, Environment, Conservation and Tourism, is aimed at using football to promote responsible gambling, discipline, teamwork and fair play while educating young people about the risks associated with gambling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Acting NWGB CEO <strong>Boitumelo Qalinge<\/strong> announced the tournament, which features high-performing schools from the province\u2019s four regions. The competition will culminate in a provincial showdown on October 9, 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The initiative forms part of the board\u2019s responsible gambling efforts, with particular attention on preventing gambling among school-age children. Its campaign message is \u201cGamble Responsibly and Don\u2019t Gamble Your Future Away.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The <strong>Bojanala District<\/strong> leg has already produced its first champion, with <strong>Meriti Secondary School<\/strong> finishing top of a three-team competition. <strong>Thabane Commercial School<\/strong> and <strong>Boikagong Secondary School <\/strong>were the other participating teams. Meriti won both of its matches to finish with six points.
