The workshop held on Tuesday, August 18, at the Royal St Andrews Hotel<\/strong> in Ndlambe Local Municipality<\/strong>, within the Sarah Baartman District<\/strong>, was part of the NLC\u2019s broader programme of engaging communities and organisations on its regulatory and funding responsibilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The engagement focused on strengthening participants\u2019 understanding of how the NLC operates, particularly the distinction between its role as a regulator and the process through which funds generated from the National Lottery are distributed to good causes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n A key area of discussion was the grant application process. The NLC provides funding opportunities to qualifying non-profit entities working for the public good, including non-governmental organisations, public benefit trusts, educational institutions, sporting bodies, cultural organisations and community-based groups.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Participants were trained on the requirements for submitting complete and properly supported funding applications. The session covered key documents applicants may need to provide, including proof of registration, a constitution, project business plan, budget, motivation and financial records. They were also guided on the NLC\u2019s grant categories, with small grants covering amounts of up to R500,000 (US$30,745), while medium and large grants range from R500,000 to R10m (US$614,677).<\/p>\n\n\n\n The Commission also stressed that funding is subject to annual priority areas and that meeting the basic requirements does not guarantee an award.
