Parents, instructors, LONASE management, social works officials and programme partners attended the send-off.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The participants gathered at the General Directorate early in the morning, wearing caps and identification badges and carrying their bags before boarding buses for Gambia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The summer camp is one of LONASE\u2019s annual social programmes, giving children the chance to take part in organised activities outside their usual environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to LONASE, the programme combines recreation with learning and group activities, with participants interacting with their peers under the supervision of instructors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">LONASE said the decision to hold this year\u2019s camp in Gambia was linked to the close historical and cultural ties between the two countries. Senegal and Gambia share strong social and geographical connections, with Gambia almost entirely surrounded by Senegal apart from its Atlantic coastline.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The choice of destination also gives the participants exposure to a neighbouring country and its social and cultural setting.
