Angola’s gaming regulator is targeting a common misconception that small or digital prize draws fall outside regulatory requirements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

Angola.- Angola’s Institute for Gaming Supervision (ISJ) has stepped up its compliance message on prize promotions<\/strong>, targeting misconceptions among businesses over when regulatory approval is required.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The ISJ, which is responsible for regulating, supervising and overseeing gaming activities in Angola, said in an August 11 statement that businesses often mistakenly believe that “small” or digital draws do not require authorisation<\/strong>. “If there is a prize at stake, there are rules to be followed,” the regulator said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The ISJ said actions involving luck, the promise of a prize or the distribution of commercial gifts in Angola must be regulated and authorised by the regulator. The message forms part of the ISJ’s “Myth or Truth” campaign, which seeks to address misconceptions surrounding commercial competitions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Under the existing framework, organisers of promotional games, raffles and prize competitions must obtain prior ISJ authorisation, with applications submitted at least 30 days<\/strong> before the activity begins through the Gaming Supervision System. The requirement covers both promotions where winners are selected by chance and contests where winning depends on skill, knowledge or expertise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The regulator urged businesses to comply with the applicable requirements, warning them to avoid fines<\/strong> and protect their businesses. The clarification reinforces the ISJ’s existing authorisation framework for promotional games, raffles and competitions, for which prior authorisation is required.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
