Mutua joins the ALGA board alongside recent appointees South African information and communications technology (ICT) executive Moss Gondwe<\/a>, Chairman of the board of directors of Senegal’s National Lottery (LONASE) Moustapha Camara<\/a>, South African gaming regulator Dr Maroba “Jimmy” Matsapola and Ethiopian Lottery Service Deputy CEO (Licensing and Control) Yodit Wolde.<\/p>\n\n\n\n In a statement announcing Mutua’s appointment, ALGA highlighted his more than two decades of experience in gaming regulation, policy development, market governance and stakeholder engagement across Africa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Mutua currently serves as CEO of AGOK, where ALGA said he has been a leading voice in shaping industry dialogue on regulation, taxation, responsible gaming<\/strong>, licensing frameworks and public-private collaboration. Under his leadership, AGOK was named the Safer Gambling Champion in the Industry Association category at the 2026 Gamble Alert Responsible Gaming Awards, recognising the association’s player protection and responsible gaming initiatives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The association said his experience spans both the regulatory and operational sides of the gaming industry, giving him insight into the opportunities and challenges shaping Africa’s rapidly evolving gaming landscape.<\/p>\n\n\n\n ALGA said: “As ALGA continues to strengthen collaboration among regulators, operators, and policymakers, we are confident that Mr John Mutua’s wealth of experience, strategic insight, and commitment to industry advancement<\/strong> will make a valuable contribution to the Association’s mission of building a responsible, innovative, and sustainable future for Africa’s lotteries and gaming sector.”<\/p>\n\n\n ALGA said Mutua has consistently championed constructive engagement between regulators, operators, policymakers and industry stakeholders, helping to create environments where innovation can thrive alongside strong consumer protection and regulatory compliance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The association also described him as a recognised advocate for responsible gaming and regulatory excellence, noting his continued contributions to discussions on industry sustainability, policy harmonisation<\/strong> and the future of gaming governance across the continent.<\/p>\n\n\n![\"\"](\"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/africa\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/7\/2026\/08\/ALGA-1-480x600.jpg\")
