South Africa.- The North West Gambling Board (NWGB)<\/strong> has joined the Department of Economic Development, Environment, Conservation and Tourism (DEDECT) <\/strong>to provide essential support to elderly residents during the 2026 Mandela Day Outreach Programme<\/strong> in the Greater Taung Local Municipality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The initiative, held at the Tlhoka Pelaelo Old Age Centre<\/a> in Sekhing Village as part of Mandela Month, saw MEC for economic development, environment, conservation and tourism Bitsa Lenkopane, joined by the Speaker of the Greater Taung Local Municipality, Cllr Grace Moipolai, Kgosana David Sehemo and Ward Councillor Tebogo Molale, donate groceries, toiletries, blankets, walking sticks and mobility walkers to the Tlhoka Pelaelo and Sedibeng Sa Lorato old age centres, along with a wheelchair for an individual beneficiary.<\/p>\n\n\n

The donations were made possible through the DEDECT Liquor Authority and social partners, according to the department.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In line with the National Greening Programme<\/a>, the programme also included the distribution of 220 trees to senior citizens and other community members, with several planted on-site at the care centres and the Batlhaping Ba Ga Mothibi Traditional Authority offices, to encourage tree planting and environmental conservation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking during the event, Lenkopane said Mandela Month reminds communities that true leadership is about serving others and making a meaningful difference. She said: “Our elders are the custodians of our heritage and the pillars of our communities. Government remains dedicated to supporting vulnerable populations through stakeholder partnerships, whose generous contributions make these special outreach efforts possible, since they fall outside our operational budget.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The North West Gambling Board said its participation forms part of its commitment to supporting government-led social development initiatives. It added that it will continue strengthening partnerships aimed at improving the lives of communities across the province.<\/p>\n\n\n
