The publication reported that the Group 1 race did not proceed as scheduled on July 25 following the GRA’s decision to reject the requested derogation.

In the communiqué, the GRA said it had “carefully considered the need to preserve public confidence in the horseracing industry, maintain the requisite degree of unpredictability in racing outcomes, and protect the integrity of racing and betting operations” before reaching its decision. It added that the requirement for a minimum of three separate stables to participate in a race before betting may be offered is “an important regulatory safeguard” that promotes transparency and strengthens public trust.

The GRA said refusing the requested derogation was in the wider public interest and reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the integrity of the regulatory system, safeguarding public confidence in the racing industry, and promoting sound, consistent and credible regulatory practices.

   See also:

See also: Uganda gaming regulator reports stronger revenue, enforcement and compliance gains since July 2025

Regulator refuses special request for the Group 1 Mauritius Derby, saying public confidence and consistent enforcement of racing rules must take precedence.

The Mauritius Gambling Regulatory Authority (GRA) rejected a derogation request from the Mauritius Turf Club Jockey Club (MTCJC) for the Group 1 Mauritius Derby, which failed to meet minimum participation requirements.
