{"id":29638,"date":"2026-07-23T16:36:46","date_gmt":"2026-07-23T19:36:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/africa\/?p=29638"},"modified":"2026-07-27T04:44:20","modified_gmt":"2026-07-27T07:44:20","slug":"south-africa-only-african-market-in-google-gambling-ad-expansion","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/focusgn.com\/africa\/south-africa-only-african-market-in-google-gambling-ad-expansion","title":{"rendered":"South Africa only African market in Google gambling ad expansion"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Google will remove the requirement for programmatic buyers to individually certify gambling advertisers in 37 markets from August 10, with South Africa the sole African country included.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">South Africa.- South Africa has been included in<strong> Google&#8217;s expanded list <\/strong>of markets eligible for programmatic gambling advertising, making it the only African country covered by the policy change effective August 10.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The update applies to <strong>Google&#8217;s Authorized Buyers platform<\/strong>, allowing approved demand-side platforms and ad networks to serve online gambling and social casino advertisements across Google&#8217;s programmatic advertising ecosystem, including AdSense, Ad Manager and AdMob.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">South Africa is<strong> one of 37 jurisdictions<\/strong> included in the expansion, alongside markets such as the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, Germany, Japan and Brazil. Under the revised policy, authorised buyers will no longer need separate Google certification for each end advertiser before serving eligible gambling campaigns through the programmatic marketplace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The change covers online casinos, sportsbooks, bingo and slot sites, online lotteries and scratch cards, and games involving virtual currencies with real-world value. Google said all advertisements must continue to comply with local laws, licensing requirements and its existing gambling advertising policies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The company also said publishers in eligible markets, including South Africa, could see an increase in gambling-related advertising as more authorised buyers gain access. However, publishers will retain controls to block gambling categories, individual advertisers or specific authorised buyers if they choose.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The policy update applies only to programmatic advertising through Authorized Buyers. Gambling operators and affiliates advertising directly through Google Ads will continue to follow the existing certification process.
