South Africa.- The Gauteng Gambling Board (GGB) has hosted a Consumer Awareness Outreach at Renbro Shopping Centre in Hammanskraal, aimed at informing residents of their rights and promoting responsible gambling

The outreach, held on July 9, brought GGB officials together with the public to discuss responsible gambling, the risks of illegal gambling and the importance of making informed decisions.

Officials handed out educational materials and encouraged residents to recognise the warning signs of problem gambling. They reminded attendees that gambling should remain a form of entertainment, not a source of income or a way out of financial difficulty, and advised setting spending and time limits and stopping when it is no longer enjoyable or begins to affect personal finances and wellbeing.

The GGB directed people experiencing gambling-related harm, along with concerned family and friends, to the National Responsible Gambling Programme (NRGP), which offers free, confidential counselling on its 0800 006 008 helpline.

The event forms part of the board’s ongoing consumer education work in Gauteng, mirroring a wider push by South African regulators that have stepped up community outreach on responsible and illegal gambling this year.
