The African iGaming Alliance has convened a high-level African Regulators Session in London at iGB L!VE 2026 to discuss the future of continental gaming regulation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
The African iGaming Alliance (AiA)<\/strong> convened a high-level African Regulators Session in London on the sidelines of iGB L!VE 2026<\/strong>, bringing together Directors General, Chief Executive Officers and senior regulatory leaders from gambling authorities across Africa to discuss the future of gaming regulation on the continent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The session was held on July 2 and was attended by senior representatives from Nigeria, South Africa, Uganda, Malawi, Rwanda, Ghana, Tanzania and Angola, reflecting a shared commitment to strengthening cooperation among African regulators and promoting sustainable, responsible and well-regulated gaming markets. <\/p>\n\n\n * Mr. Bashir Are<\/strong> \u2013 chief executive officer, Lagos State Lotteries and Gaming Authority (Nigeria)<\/p>\n\n\n\n * Mr. Lungile Goodman Dukwana<\/strong> \u2013 chief executive officer, National Gambling Board (South Africa)<\/p>\n\n\n\n * Mr. Denis Mudene Ngabirano<\/strong> \u2013 chief executive officer, National Lotteries and Gaming Regulatory Board (Uganda)<\/p>\n\n\n\n * Mr. Muchanankhwaye Mpuluka<\/strong> \u2013 director general, Malawi Gaming and Lotteries Authority<\/p>\n\n\n\n * Mr. Serge Nyombayire<\/strong> \u2013 head of gambling licencing & regulations, Rwanda Development Board<\/p>\n\n\n\n * Mr. Patrick Kwakye <\/strong>\u2013 deputy director, Inspections, Investigations, Compliance and Enforcement, Gaming Commission of Ghana<\/p>\n\n\n\n * Mr. James Mbalwe<\/strong> \u2013 director general, Gaming Board of Tanzania<\/p>\n\n\n\n * Mrs. Nerethz Tati \u2013<\/strong> directora geral, Instituto de Supervis\u00e3o de Jogos (ISJ), Angola. <\/p>\n\n\n\n The regulators exchanged experiences and best practices on several strategic issues affecting regulated gaming markets across Africa, including:<\/p>\n\n\n\n * Sustainable taxation and creating competitive regulated markets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n * Combatting illegal gambling and improving market channelisation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n * Cross-border regulatory cooperation and information sharing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n * Responsible gambling and consumer protection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n * Data-driven regulation and evidence-based policymaking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n * The development of continent-wide responsible gambling initiatives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The session featured a technical presentation by H2 Gambling Capital on global taxation models, market channelisation and the relationship between tax policy, player protection and sustainable revenue generation. Discussions highlighted the importance of balanced tax frameworks that encourage compliance, protect consumers and support long-term industry growth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The AiA also presented its proposed Africa Safer Gambling Week, a continent-wide responsible gambling awareness initiative aimed at promoting consistent messaging, education and collaboration between regulators, operators and other stakeholders across participating African jurisdictions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Among the outcomes of the meeting were:<\/p>\n\n\n\n * A shared commitment to strengthen collaboration among African gambling regulators.<\/p>\n\n\n\n * Recognition of the importance of evidence-based policymaking supported by reliable market data.<\/p>\n\n\n\n * Agreement to continue discussions on sustainable taxation models that balance government revenue, player protection and market competitiveness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n * Support for increased cooperation in tackling illegal gambling through cross-border engagement and information sharing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n * Broad support for the continued development of the Africa Safer Gambling Week initiative.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
