South Africa.- The North West Gambling Board (NWGB) combined responsible gambling education with compliance inspections during Phase 6 of the provincial government’s Thuntsha Lerole Accelerated Service Delivery Programme, held on Friday, July 3, in Matlwang Village, within the JB Marks Local Municipality.

The campaign focused on educating residents about gambling-related risks and the Board’s role in regulating gambling activities in the province. Officials engaged with community members to provide information on responsible gambling, the risks of illegal gambling, and the services offered by the regulator.

At the same time, the NWGB’s Law Enforcement Unit carried out compliance inspections at gambling and business premises in the village. The Board said the inspections were aimed at determining whether gambling activities were being conducted in accordance with gambling legislation, identifying illegal gambling operations, and ensuring licensed operators complied with regulatory requirements.

During the outreach, officials also informed residents about the free treatment and counselling services available through the South African Responsible Gambling Foundation (SARGF) for people experiencing gambling-related harm. Community members were encouraged to use the service if they or someone they know required professional support.

The NWGB also urged members of the public to report suspected illegal gambling activities through its telephone, WhatsApp and email reporting channels to assist the Board’s enforcement efforts across the province.
