New sports betting platform aims to provide a regulated homegrown alternative to foreign operators while advancing the state lottery’s digital transformation.

Senegal.- Senegal’s National Lottery (LONASE) has expanded its digital footprint with the launch of LPbet, an online sports betting platform aimed at strengthening the state operator’s position in a market dominated by international bookmakers. The platform was unveiled in Dakar on July 2 by Toussaint Manga, LONASE director general, as part of the lottery’s broader modernisation drive and push for greater digital sovereignty.

Developed for both mobile and desktop users, LPbet incorporates multiple mobile payment solutions to deliver a seamless betting experience.

The launch ceremony was attended by LONASE officials, technical partners and invited guests. Manga said, according to Seneweb: “LPbet, designed by Senegalese people and for Senegalese people, is a new leading digital gaming and entertainment platform powered by LONASE.”

Manga said the launch is another step in LONASE’s digital transformation as the gaming and sports betting sector continues to evolve. He added: “Following the launch of LONASE Way, we are now taking another step towards LONASE’s sovereignty in the field of gambling and sports betting.”

Manga also acknowledged the teams behind the project and thanked technical partner Betting Partners for its contribution to the platform’s development.

Homegrown alternative

Christopher Sevilla, CEO of Betting Partners, said LPbet was developed to provide existing bettors with a credible national alternative to foreign operators while helping retain more of the value generated through digital betting within Senegal.

Sevilla said: “Our ambition is not to encourage new audiences to enter the game. Rather, it is to offer existing players a national, regulated, responsible, and more beneficial alternative for the country.”

He added: “We want to help bring back to LONASE some of the value that currently circulates on digital platforms so that it is better controlled, better organised, and more focused on the country’s development.”

Sevilla said more than 25 specialists contributed to the development of LPbet, bringing expertise in design, user experience (UX), cybersecurity and adapting the platform to Senegalese cultural realities.

Fatima Zahra Gadio, director of the LONASE Partners unit, said LPbet reflects LONASE’s digital transformation and its ambition to build trust with users through a modern, innovative and responsible offering.
