South Africa.- The African Lotteries & Gaming Association (ALGA)<\/strong> and GlobalLab<\/strong> have signed a partnership to introduce a common technical standards framework for gambling and lottery markets across Africa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The agreement, announced by ALGA on June 30, will see the rollout of the GLA Standards framework<\/strong>, developed by GlobalLab to provide a single set of technical requirements for product testing, certification and compliance. The framework is intended to help regulators and licensed operators use consistent technical standards while allowing each country to retain its own gambling laws and licensing rules.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The partners said the initiative addresses the lack of uniform technical requirements across African jurisdictions, where gambling products often have to undergo separate testing and certification before entering different regulated markets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The GLA Standards framework covers product certification, laboratory testing and compliance assessment for gambling systems and related technologies. According to ALGA and GlobalLab, the standards were developed specifically for African regulatory and operational conditions rather than being adapted from frameworks used in other regions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The organisations said the framework is expected to improve cooperation among regulators by standardising technical testing and certification processes. They added that it would strengthen product integrity and consumer protection by ensuring gambling products meet recognised compliance requirements before they are approved for regulated markets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The partnership is also expected to simplify compliance for licensed operators, suppliers and testing laboratories operating in multiple African jurisdictions by reducing duplicate certification processes and providing a clearer path to regulatory approval.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a joint statement, ALGA chief executive officer Musa Mngadi<\/strong> and GlobalLab chief executive officer Maurizio Soccodato<\/strong> said the partnership reflects a commitment to developing technical standards that meet Africa\u2019s regulatory needs and support a more transparent and sustainable gambling industry.<\/p>\n\r\n\t\t
