South Africa.- The Gauteng Gambling Board (GGB) has partnered with MASP–Sebokeng, the South African Police Service (SAPS), the Gauteng Department of Community Safety, the Gauteng Liquor Board, the Gauteng Provincial Legislature and other organisations, to host a community awareness event in Sebokeng focused on challenges affecting men and boys.

Held at Saul Tsotetsi Community Hall on July 19, 2026, the initiative brought together young people, community leaders, government representatives and law enforcement agencies to discuss issues including illegal and irresponsible gambling, alcohol and substance abuse, gender-based violence (GBV) and unemployment.

Speakers highlighted the social and financial risks associated with illegal gambling activities, warning participants that unlicensed gambling operations offer no consumer protection and can contribute to crime and financial hardship. Attendees were encouraged to engage only with licensed gambling operators and to seek help when gambling behaviour becomes harmful.

The event, held as part of Youth Month 2026, also addressed the impact of alcohol and drug abuse on families and communities, while discussions on GBV focused on promoting respect, accountability and positive masculinity among men and boys.

Organisers said the event formed part of broader efforts to strengthen community awareness, support crime prevention initiatives and encourage responsible decision-making among young people. Information on available support services and reporting channels for illegal gambling and other social harms was also shared with participants.
