Kenya.- Police in Nairobi\u2019s Embakasi North <\/strong>constituency have destroyed 10 illegal gambling machines as part of an ongoing campaign against unlicensed betting activities that authorities say are contributing to youth addiction and crime.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The machines, commonly known as \u201cLotto\u201d or \u201cvinyondee,\u201d were burned at the Dandora deputy county commissioner\u2019s office following their seizure during enforcement operations in the area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thomas Bett<\/strong>, Embakasi North deputy county commissioner, said security agencies were intensifying efforts to remove the machines from communities, despite attempts by operators to conceal them from authorities. Enforcement teams have expanded operations across several neighbourhoods, including Kariobangi <\/strong>and Dandora<\/strong>, with the aim of eliminating the machines completely.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Authorities argue that the machines are drawing children away from school and exposing young people to gambling-related harm. Bett called for tougher action against those who continue to place the machines in public areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bett also urged government agencies, community leaders and residents to work together to eliminate illegal gambling and protect children and other vulnerable groups from exploitation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The crackdown has received support from some local residents, who claim gambling activities have fuelled addiction among minors and contributed to theft within households.<\/p>\n\n\n
