DRC.- The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) has started deploying technical resources<\/strong> for its new gambling monitoring platform as authorities move to tighten oversight of the sector and improve regulatory compliance<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Didier Bobwa, head of the information system and monitoring of gaming operations, said technical resources are already being deployed within the Gambling Monitoring Unit <\/strong>as part of preparations for the new platform, according to Radio Okapi. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to industry reports, the DRC gambling sector generates around US$1.7bn annually<\/strong>, while the state receives only about US$1m in revenue from the sector, underscoring the gap between the scale of gambling activity and the revenue collected by the government. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The platform is expected to provide nationwide oversight <\/strong>of gambling operations and improve authorities’ ability to monitor operator activity in real time. National Assembly member Willy Mishiki <\/a>previously argued that stronger gambling regulation is needed to improve oversight and ensure the state captures a greater share of revenue generated by the sector. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dieudonn\u00e9 Ntumba, coordinator of the Gambling Monitoring Unit, has called for closer collaboration <\/strong>between regulators and operators to ensure fair competition and combat financial crime. Operator PixLab RDC has welcomed the initiative, while authorities plan ongoing dialogue with industry stakeholders as the rollout of the monitoring platform progresses. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The deployment of technical resources represents a further step in the DRC’s wider gambling reform programme. Authorities have been pursuing efforts to formalise and modernise the sector since 2025, including legislative changes, licensing requirements and measures aimed at improving regulatory oversight and revenue collection. <\/p>\n\n\n
