Agents and writers who fail to register by the new deadline will not be permitted to sell lotto or lottery products in Ghana.

Ghana.- Ghana’s National Lottery Authority (NLA) has extended the registration period for lotto agents and writers operating under NLA-licensed private lotto operators, allowing them until June 30, 2026, to complete the process and comply with regulatory requirements.

The extension was announced in a public notice issued on June 3, following an earlier registration exercise that began in April as part of efforts to strengthen oversight of Ghana’s private lottery distribution network. The initiative is being carried out in partnership with the Concerned Lotto Agents Association of Ghana (CLAAG).

Under the programme, all agents and writers working for licensed private lotto operators are required to register through the designated online portal and obtain an official identification sticker. The NLA said the sticker must be displayed at sales points to enable verification by players and compliance officers.

The registration fee remains GHS250 (€16.70), which must be paid before a sticker can be issued. According to the NLA, registration cannot be completed without payment.

The authority has also warned that agents and writers who fail to register by the new deadline will not be permitted to sell lotto or lottery products in Ghana. An NLA compliance team is expected to conduct enforcement and verification activities after the registration window closes.

The exercise forms part of a broader regulatory effort by the NLA to improve monitoring of private lotto operations and ensure that only authorised agents and writers participate in the distribution of lottery products across the country. The authority has been working to create a verified database of agents and writers while introducing identification measures designed to distinguish licensed operators from unauthorised sellers.

The registration requirement builds on a similar identification sticker system introduced by the NLA in 2025. At the time, the regulator said the stickers and accompanying QR code verification process would help compliance teams identify legitimate operators and support enforcement action against illegal lottery activities.
