Malawi.- The Malawi Gaming and Lotteries Authority (MAGLA)<\/strong> has contributed K7.8m (US$ 4.5k) towards a free medical screening campaign scheduled for May 30 in Rumphi District<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The funding was presented to the Mzuzu Viphya Lions Club<\/strong> on Thursday, May 21, to support medical checks for eye conditions, diabetes, and mental health. Organisers say more than 1,000 people are expected to benefit from the outreach programme, including children and elderly persons living with disabilities at St. Magdalena Centre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking during the cheque handover, MAGLA director of finance and administration, Dumbo Muwalo<\/strong>, said the contribution forms part of the authority\u2019s wider community support initiatives. He said the regulator remains committed to using part of its resources to support social welfare programmes in Malawi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mzuzu Viphya Lions Club treasurer, Pauline Chagonapanja Drennon<\/strong>, said the partnership would help improve access to healthcare services for people who may not easily afford medical screening, especially in underserved communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The initiative adds to a growing list of social and public welfare projects financed by MAGLA in recent months, as the regulator increases its visibility through non-gaming community programmes. The authority has recently funded health, tourism, education, and disaster response activities across Malawi under its CSR portfolio.<\/p>\n\n\n
