South Africa.- The National Lotteries Commission (NLC) has confirmed it will align its funding strategy with the government’s 2026/27 economic priorities, following the presentation of the Department of Trade, Industry and Competition’s (DTIC) 2026/27 Annual Performance Plan to Parliament.

The plan, presented to Parliament’s Portfolio Committee on Trade, Industry and Competition on April 21, 2026 by Minister Parks Tau, sets out government’s focus on inclusive growth, job creation, economic transformation, investment attraction and improved implementation across the economy.

The NLC said it supports this direction and will continue to use National Lottery funds to drive social and economic development through transparent grant administration.

According to the Commission, its funding model remains focused on community development initiatives in areas such as social welfare, arts and culture, as well as sport and recreation, aimed at strengthening social cohesion and improving livelihoods in communities nationwide.

The entity also reaffirmed its commitment to inclusive development, with continued support for women, youth, persons with disabilities and rural communities. It said it is strengthening governance, improving efficiency and enhancing implementation processes to ensure faster and more effective distribution of funds to approved beneficiaries.

Skills development and capacity-building remain key focus areas, with ongoing support for programmes designed to equip communities and organisations with tools for sustainability. The NLC added that it remains committed to contributing to national development by ensuring responsible funding and delivering measurable impact through its programmes.
